Pregnant Women
🤰🏽Pregnant women who develop BVD are at higher risk of becoming seriously ill. Early care-seeking is the most important protective action.
Key messages for pregnant women and their families:
- If a pregnant woman develops sudden fever, fatigue, vomiting, or diarrhoea — 📞call or visit nearest health facility IMMEDIATELY. Even if she feels only slightly unwell.
- If she has been in 🫱🏾close contact with someone sick with BVD — call or visit nearest health facility even if she has no symptoms yet.
- At the treatment centre, dedicated care is available for pregnant women. Health staff will consider both the mother's health and her pregnancy.
- Her older children will not be left without care — tell the health team about her children.
- Women who recover from BVD while pregnant need continued medical check-ups 🩺.
- Women who are breastfeeding should speak to their doctor before resuming breastfeeding.
