Survivor Reintegration and Stigma
Survivors face stigma and exclusion after recovering from BVD. This is harmful, dangerous, and wrong ⚠️.
Facts about survivors:
- A survivor cleared by health authorities is NOT contagious and is NOT a danger to the community.
- After recovery, survivors may experience ongoing health effects 🩺(fatigue, headaches, vision problems, joint pain, hearing loss, depression). They need continued medical follow-up.
- Male survivors are advised to use condoms consistently until semen tests confirm the virus is absent — health staff will provide guidance.
Your role as a CHW
- Tell your community: a survivor is proof that recovery is possible 👨🏿⚕️. They bring hope.
- Counter stigma directly and calmly when you hear it 🤗 — use facts, not arguments.
- Report any case of a survivor or their family being excluded, threatened, or harmed to child protection services or other relevant authorities⚠️.
