These are the main differences between Ebola and BVD
- There is currently no licensed vaccine for the BVD variant of Ebola. The approved Ebola vaccine currently works for Ebola virus disease, which is caused by a different virus species than Bundibugyo virus (BVD). There is no evidence that it can prevent or treat BVD. Research is ongoing to assess whether or not the approved Ebola vaccine still may have some benefits in this outbreak.
- ⚠️ WARNING: If you were vaccinated against Ebola during a previous outbreak, that vaccine does NOT protect you against BVD. Do not assume you are protected. Seek care immediately if you have symptoms.
- There is currently no medicine proven to cure Bundibugyo virus. However, getting medical care as early as possible can still save your life. Health workers can treat your symptoms, like fever, vomiting and dehydration, and give your body the best chance to fight the virus.
- If you or someone you know has symptoms, go to a health centre straight away. Do not wait.
