Solar and wind power

Renewable Energy

Burning fossil fuels for electricity is the single biggest contributor to climate change. But we can get electricity from renewables too. Solar and wind are the two most important renewables right now. We need batteries to store their power when the sun isn’t shining and the wind isn’t blowing, but these batteries are getting better every day.

Other renewables include hydropower from dams, wave, tidal, and geothermal energy. The kind of power a country chooses should be based on which of these things is the safest and most available. We can also reduce the amount of power we use in the first place, by simply being more careful, and using more efficient technologies.

The oil we burn in cars, boats and planes can be replaced with hydrogen fuel cells and in some cases, biodiesel and solar. But one of our best options is to make transport electric, so that we can plug it in to the same power grid as our homes and factories, then run it all on renewables.
